For my upcoming tri[, I know will shoot handholding a lot, so I bought this devise. It looks good and fancy in picture. But I find it an useless annoying toy.
Am I wrong. Do you have other experience?

I have grips on 2 cameras. No secondary loop. Doesn't look like it would do any good.

I think the wrist/forearm part would annoy me, and i can't see how it would give any better support than just a hand strap on it's own. Indeed it might be worse.

I certainly wouldn't trade in my camdapter hand strap for one of those.

Can you show a picture of the grips, that is helpful?

Do you normally wear a support around the wrist for orthopedic reasons?

I don't have one to hand, so to speak. But if you google "camdapter" and choose to see images, there are some there.

I've tried three hand straps so far: Cotton Carrier, Peak Designs and SpiderPro. The first two were better than nothing, the SpiderPro is in a league of its own, worth every penny.

I doubt healthy young people need the straps much.
The one time I used the normal Canon hand strap I got a rash.

Yes, it looks both useless and annoying, especially for traveling.

Op/Tech used to (may still) make something like that. Got one as a gift maybe a decade ago, and it was the most annoying/useless camera accessory I've ever seen. You can't change a lens, adjust camera settings, scratch your nose, etc. with that thing strapped on. Really a stupid idea.

I wonder if the wrist strap is supposed to hold the camera if you let go of the hand grip?

But, it looks like the connecting strap is so short you wouldn't even be able to get your hand out of that grip to let go of the camera!

Pretty useless looking to me!!

It looks bulky and slow to put on/ take off.

I wrap my regular strap (Domke Gripper) around my wrist and that helps protect from dropping-- takes 2 seconds to position and I still have a strap for shoulder or cross-body if i want it (and can still change settings and scratch my nose when needed).

The wrist part would annoy the crap out of me especially with it being so big. Of all the ones I've reviewed (linked below), SpiderPro is my top choice. The SpiderPro also has a strap that goes around the wrist. This actually lets you let go of the camera without having to grip it but still not have to worry about it falling.

For the longest time, I used the OEM neck strap which came with Canon cameras. It was always annoying and bugged me. Eventually I moved onto using both hand strap and neck strap. That got annoying because of all the excess crap on the camera but was convenient for wearing around your body when you aren't using the body. Eventually just took off the neck strap and now am only currently using Herringbone hand strap right now.

I love mine for long, hot, standing shoots with no place to set my camera down. My camera dangles at my side like a dead weight without having to grip it. More comfortable and less sweaty than a blackrapid strap.

I've got the same one that trenchmonkey's girl has. Ok for a D810 w/ 85 1.8 or 24-70 but probably not for a 70-200 2.8 because of excessive pull on the wrist. i'd use a blackrapid for the 70-200.
