I think one really needs to view lenses and body bodies as an integral system, even though there are obvious advantages (and disadvantages) to certain camera bodies and lenses.
I think there are subjectively better lenses at respective focal lengths that some of Fuji's offerings, and a camera like the Xpro2 or XT2 isn't perfect (no camera is).
The strength in the Fuji system is the combination of lens plus camera body. Fuji tends to be stronger as a whole than the sum of its parts, because I haven't come across any other brand that offers lenses of a decent size and weight, at reasonable prices (for my budget anyways), and in focal lengths and speeds that actually are useful to me. Likewise, they offer camera bodies with a great combination of size/weight, with pretty darn good IQ, and great control interfaces.
I had the Zony 35/1.4 along with the F2.8 version with my A7rII for example... That 35/1.4 is a great lens as far as optics are concerned but it cost more than I really wanted to spend and it was bigger than I really wanted to carry. Likewise the A7rII while technically a great camera, wasn't very enjoyable to shoot.
If your willing to lug a big lens around, and you simply want the highest resolution possible, then it checks off the boxes, BUT.... its not as fun to shoot, so it gets left behind most outings, and a camera sitting at home simply can't product nice images.
The Fuji system I've assembled is small enough that I actually grab it when walking out the door, when I'm out shooting with it I enjoy the process and don't feel I'm fighting the camera or endlessly pressing buttons to access menu's etc, and when I finally get home and view the images, they look great overall, further enhancing the experience.
There isn't anything perfect about its individual aspects, but there also really isn't anything I actively dislike. I can't say the lenses are too big and heavy. I can't say they cost too much, I can't say it doesn't produce a clean enough high ISO for my needs, I can't say I have to dive into too many menu's to make basic shooting adjustments etc etc.
It basically doesn't do anything "wrong", and I've found that for me, having a good all around camera system is more enjoyable than having a great lens or two in a system that I'm cursing at half the time.
Kind of a sexist analogy but who would you rather date..... A pretty "girl next door" type who's fun to be with and loyal, or a supermodel who cheats on you half the time, makes you carry her purse, but looks amazing ?...Show more →
Yes I agree.. Fuji is the most fun to shoot camera right now, its more often with me than my Sony. I always see them not competing but complementing each other very well.
Re the ZM 35 2.8 and 20, i find them equally sharp (sony A7). The faster lens was adequately sharp wide open and becomes blisteringly sharp at 2.8.
I did regret selling the c-biogon as the size was stellar for street shots.
Have everything set with xt1 14, 23 and 35. Been trying to justify the 16-55 but idk, is it worth the high price?
