p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Female Jaguar

First, let me start by saying that this beautiful cat is in captivity and second, the images were not captured in the Pantanal region but in Costa Rica. Still, the circumstances didn't take away much from this beautiful cat.

Like anywhere else in the world, in the name of development, humans encroached more and more into the habitat of wildlife, and the jaguar population paid a hefty price. This jaguar was trapped several years ago after it was preying on livestock as its prey became more and more scarce. It was almost killed by locals when a rancher agreed to adopt the beast. A male jaguar was also caught shortly after and both are now under the care of this rancher and judging by what I could see, he can easily afford to take care of the two. The living conditions of these jaguars are not bad and they have ample space to roam around. Not to the scale of a real zoo but still not too bad. And I was told that a vet visits and examines the jags on a regular basis.

The female jag looks good and and posed more readily while the male was too close to the fence to get decent images without distracting background while I was there. Anyway, here are 3 images of the female then. Thanks!

Joshua, regardless of the circumstance in getting these images they are just wonderful. The detail in all three are superb whilst the eye contact in the second is super and the pose in the last which gives the impression she is about to launch is equally impressive. Now, we just have to find a way for you to get to see them in the wild and take equally great shots whilst floating on the river!

Joshua, your work always has such amazing clarity and color. I feel like I'm going to sneeze just studying these images (I'm allergic to cats).

I always look forward to seeing your posts.

Nice and close Rich colors, I like the fade and darkness in the BG on these.
#2 looks like its nose is poking out of the frame Curious on this one, the face looks to be lightened here and lacking a bit of contrast?

Nice to hear that there is someone taking care of these cats, they deserve it.

Hi Karl, thank you very much! I did lighten the face area and darken the surrounding but that's about it. Maybe that caused a tad of loss of contrast there or what appears to be as such.

As far as the big cats concerned, well, yes, I feel sorry for them. It would be best if they were released back into their habitat but that would be a death verdict for them shortly after because most of their habitat was gone. They had to fend for themselves and that would mean prying on livestock. So, indeed this arrangement is probably best for them.
