p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Blue Ridge Parkway afternoon

Have a few sets recently from a trip to NC and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Was looking for some fall color and a nice sunset.

Found some fall color only at the highest elevations:

Unfortunately the clouds moved in and we figured no sunset. Still, was rewarded with some lovely sun rays through the clouds. They were quite intense (this with a Leica 75/2 apo):

and a three image stitch pano with a 50mm Zeiss loxia:

Was in a panic as I knew the light would change any second and these could be better, but I still enjoyed the experience as the light was magical for a bit there. C&C welcome!

Very nice set. The 2nd & 3rd are the best.
I think the 3rd would benefit from cropping out the tree on the left edge.

Thanks for posting

Thanks so much for posting these great pictures. We love going there but because of health problems we no longer can and you provided the trip for us. Thanks again.

Thanks for the kind words. I think you are right about the crop too. Appreciate the constructive criticism. 😀

Super views. Looks like color is coming along nicely.

With #2 and #3, I struggle with how to balance the brighter background with the forground trees and detial. I end up leaning more towards the balance in #2.

Yes. One of the issues with having more dynamic range with recent cameras is the ability to really bring up the shadows (or down the highlights) and almost get an HDR look. Perhaps on the third one, I should back off the brightness of the foreground and thereby make it both a bit more real and emphasize the light. My thinking was that the trees in the foreground are a larger part of the third image and thus I brought the levels up on the shadows more in that image than the second where the light rays are more the dominant part of the image due to the longer focal length). Still, your point is well taken in that the light rays are the part that makes the image rather than the ho hum color on the trees....
