Has anyone ever tried to do this with their D810 or other Nikon camera? Seems a lot cheaper than the camranger.
Using the TP-Link TL-MR3040 router and QDSLRdashboard app

I am waiting for this to finally get shipped.

If all works as promised, this will be the toy to have.

I use that setup all the time on a D3x and D7000. Very reliable, I use it to do bracketing for virtual tour spherical panos (neither the D3x nor the D7000's built-in bracketing is suitable). Haven't tried it on a D810, but it should work fine. And it's dirt-cheap compared to commercial solutions.

thanks for the feedback. I ordered the router today and it will be here tomorrow. I am excited for this to work.

Did you have to update the firmware on the router to get it to work for you?

Yes, the router must be flashed with the correct image from http://dslrdashboard.info/downloads/ - you need to be certain as to whether your mr3040 is a v1 or a v2.

Then it's smooth sailing.

Is there a easy way to know which version it is? Is there a site to explain the difference?

It doesn't work with the D500? Did I miss it?

Pre-ordered that Pulse.

No, but since I'm not in a hurry, I often use a pocket sized wifi router with built-in card reader and USB port (for XQD reader).

This allows me to move images (somewhat slowly) in environments where no USB device can be connected to a computer but "air gaps" are allowed. It also eliminates the need to connect a device to the camera or use the camera's wifi (if you have a model with wifi). Just pull the card out, pop it in the little router thingy and use a phone or whatever to pull images.

It is also handy to move things to phones or tablets, and it can be configured to stream content for everyone who is connected.

I use the RAV Power "Filehub" (you can also bridge it through to a network to put it on the internet)

This method is also interesting enough to try.

Yes; I don't use it that often, but it works fine when I do.

I flashed the unit before trying to connect for the first time.

Returning the Pulse.

Reason(s):

Bluetooth pairing issues - dropping connection within 5 feet of device.
Software issues - have to keep clearing data/cache to recognize device.
I don't think it'll last long - too tight of a hot-shoe fit, will be an issue especially in cold weather and being plastic.

I have watched all the videos and read all of the troubleshooting. I'll stick with a wired connection.
