A Fernald Visit
I went out to Fernald at about 1PM yesterday and the first thing I saw was an eagle flying overhhead with a few of its tail feathers missing. I had the 1.4x TC on my 150-600 and was on my tripod. I did not know how well the TC would work for flight shots, but with a little assist from the manual overide I kept the eagle in focus. Image quality is good rather than great but I would not have gotten this shot without the TC. The GBH was also shot with the TC.

Hi Paul,

I suggest you do some comparisons wiht TC and without cropped.

Here is a picture of a red tailed hawk taken without the tripod and TC. The shutter speed and effective fstop are the same but the hawk is much sharper at a bigger crop. The one complicating factor is that on the eagle picture I inadvertantly rotated the command dial with the menu button pressed and got a JPEG fine file in stead of a Raw file. I would think this would affect the highlight and shadow detail rather than the sharpness.

My conclusion is that the TC does not work too well on flight shots.
