p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fall Colors in Upstate Minnesota

Colors were at their peak at the Jay Cooke State Park over the weekend. The park is a 2-hour drive from Minneapolis and I got there mid-morning with the family. After some family portraits, I got a chance to try some landscape photos. There were people all around so I had to time my exposure to minimize interruptions.
Note to self: go early in the morning so avoid the crowds.

Hi Amit,

That is a great fall color scene except for all of the people in the shot. If you shoot several shots as the people move around it's easy enough to paint them out with a layer mask.

Is this a typical time for fall colors? Shooting fall colors in Minnesota is high on my list.

Jim, thanks for the comments and the suggestion about removing people. I use Lightroom so I am not very familiar with Photoshop and layer masks. I guess it's time to take that next step.

re: MN fall colors, late September through October is typically the best time. Most of our state parks are showing 75-100% color now. The far north ones are past peak though. Here is a link to check status. It gets updated every few days.

Hi Amit,

Thanks for that link.

And yes, stepping up to Photoshop will be very useful for you. It's all I use.
