Comments appreciated,

Thanks for looking,

Bob

After looking later, #2 seemed to lack shape, so revisited....

Thanks Ray,

The folks in period costume add so much to these events - and they take their roles quite seriously.

Best,

Bob

Very nice portraits Bob. I like 4 better than 2, but that is just me, I like darker images. The 1st image is super good IMO. I would try to erase the halo around the top of his hat thought. Nice work.

Thanks Dale,

Good eye re halo - I'll process differently to see if I can avoid that. #2 looks flat and muddy to me in comparison to #4, obviously my preference. Do not know why but majority of captures from that day are flat - probably the overcast morning sky - lack of contrast in that tonal area, and pushing them seems to flatten even more.

I appreciate your thought and taking time to comment.

Best,

Bob

I like your portrait with the tricorne - and your framing. I'll pile on re your edits of the original and suggest that the tonal curve be adjusted with a little lighter touch to achieve something midway between 2 and 4. I think you went a bit low there in 4. Hard to work with the flat lighting. I was just wresting with the tonal balance of a picture I took in similar lighting but I dlid like the subject and it lent itself more to a two-dimensional look than a portrait.

Thank you for your thoughts and suggestion.

I'll see if a mid-tone luminosity mask might be helpful.

Yes, I didn't realize the overall dulling impact of the flat light creating more work at the back end.

Regards,

Bob
