Not sure this is the best place to post this but I took a photo of this guy who was taking a landscape photo yesterday in grand Teton National Park. This is an enormous crop just showing the photographer. The landscape photo turned out really cool and I was interested to learn more. My question is what type of camera/photo technique is this guy using. I wanted to go talk to him but by the time I got down there he was gone. If you know what type of camera/technique this is please let me know.

Nothing mysterious here. Just a 4x5 view camera. Film in holders, ground glass, dark cloth & a light meter Yeah!
Just something a few of us still participate in. Look up Ben Horne's work & you'll see

Large Format 4x5 Field Camera. I still shoot one quite often, though not as much as I once did.

Thanks folks. Always fun to see a few folks doing it old school.

The camera looks like a Chamoix. Fairly nice Chinese made cameras, I use a Swiss made Arca Swiss Field 4x5 when the mood strikes me. It's a lot more fun than sitting in front of a computer some days.

I used a Shen Hao 4x5 for a few years. Mostly with a 6x12 back.

Still go out with my Tachihara when I get the film urge. Love the whole process of totally manual operation.

Largeformat photography is something I like much. Especially on part of it:
With fast lenses and a "fullframe" 24x36mm camera you not get much faster than f/1 lenses, and this has not too much object isolation for example for full person images.

Some people like to use the Koda Aero Ektar 7" f/2.5 on 4x5" largeformat camera. This is equivalent to ~51mm f/0.7 on "fullframe". Additional they can tilt the lens or film a bit to get even more blur.
This Aero Ektar lens has a very special bokeh as well, a bit like the Meyer Trioplan 100.
Other use even faster lenses on largeformat for even more isolation.
Or use ultra largeformat cameras with relative fast lenses, especially for old photo processes. Some use 50x60cm image format, which is like crop factor 0.055 :-)

So some reach equivalent f-stops like 0.5 or even less.

Shen Hao have a whole store set up in the best and largest camera mall in Shanghai. I'm tempted every time I go past ! Lovely sleek varnished wood - oh so sexy
