Well, here on Florida's East coast Matthew is about 8-10 hours away. . I am in Vero Beach which is a target area. Core winds are about 140 mph. This is not going to be fun folks. Since the core is fairly small if it stays off shore things will be better but still bad.

Maybe some enterprising Canon guys in the area will post a few photos of what we are about to deal with.

I have been there about 7 or 8 times so I know the deal.

Good luck Homies

Good luck indeed. And I don't think image stabilization will help one bit.

Let's also not forget that this storm has killed more than 100 people in Haiti and utterly destroyed thousands of homes.

I'm hoping everyone is alright, Hurricanes like this are the things that you'll see a headline tomorrow "200 dead and counting", Praying that it isn't that bad...

john - not a location i want to be near. hope things will turn out well for everyone in the path of the matthew.

i am sure the die-hard local surfers are having a swell of a time on the water right now.

keep us post on the aftermath. sunset after a hurricane will be one heck of the view. :-)

I've covered a several hurricanes as a photojournalist. The key is to hunker down in during the worst of it and get your photos before and after. The biggest hassles are loss of power, flooding, blowing rain, fallen branches, etc. and the occasional tornado that get spun off on the "wet" northeast side.

I've often shot between bands of rain or in the eye, staying close to my "hunker down" shelter. But if you don't do this stuff for a living, just stay safe and try to relax. There will be lots of cleanup afterwards. Good luck--feel for ya!

Hang in there. Hold onto that 50/1 box lest it blow away.

I'm in Miami, and it was barely a nuisance for us. Hopefully it's not too bad for you.

This really a thread for the 'canon gear' forum?

Hopefully everyone stays dry and on stable ground.

My ex wife & her sister are in St Augustine right now. They had to leave their park model which is in a beach front park & stay inland but I just checked & the park has photos up showing minimal damage.

My daughter is scheduled to switch places with them in 10 days so she'll be VERY happy to know her trip is still possible.
