I've pretty much decided to get the XE 2 on sale, but I want opinions on a couple of lenses

I'm thinking of getting either the 27mm f/2.8 pancake (41mm equiv) or the 35mm f/1.4R (53mm equiv) with an aperture ring for $100 more.
I want to keep the package relatively small and light, so I wasn't considering a zoom.

You may also consider the new 23mm f2 and the 35mm f2. The 35mm f2 is smaller, cheaper, quieter and faster at focusing than the f1.4 version.

The Fujifilm part of my travel kit is the X-E2 with 14/2.8, 35/1.4, and 18-55 OIS.

ree

i agree with this, the 35mm f2 is great and AF is better than the 1.4
i've had two 1.4 in the past which is great for portraits wide-open but the 2 is better all-around.
another lens to consider is the 18mm f2, sans hood it's very small (similar to the 27mm iirc)
but if you're looking for a normal FL then no option but to go either 23 2, 35 1.4, 35 2 and 27 2.8.

I looked at the 35mm f/2, but it is kind of butt ugly and the 1.4 rates the same or better on Photozone lens reviews.
The 18mm f/2 is a little too wide as it would be a 27mm equiv fl.
I didn't see the 23mm f/2 on Photozones. Is it a new lens?

I have the 35 1.4 and am happy enough with it that I wouldn't buy the f2 version. It's not the quickest autofocus, but good enough for walking around Japan for 2 weeks. Plus the extra stop is nice.

That being said, if size is your main concern and you're ok with slower glass, I'd go with the pancake.

Yes, the 23 f2 is new, an addition to the existing 23 f1.4

XE2 with the 35/1.4 gets my vote. add a wide later if you feel you need it. the 35/1.4 was my first XF lens, simply great. still have it, gets lots of use, despite all the other XF lenses i've maniacally acquired. it is fairly compact and light in weight too, despite the aperture. i use a cheap, screw-on hood with it, bit smaller than the stock one.

if you think the 35 2 is butt ugly, then you may feel the same for the 23 2 as they look similar with the 23 actually being slightly longer.

Yeah, I saw a picture of the new 23mm f/2. I might be ashamed to be seen with a lens like that, even if it has faster AF, weather sealing, and other advantages.

What are you seeing that makes either of the f2 lenses so shamefully ugly that you couldn't consider being seen with one? A wider base than nose? I think they look a good bit like some leica or other older rangefinder lenses, nothing offensive.

And btw, XE2 is a great choice, look at the thumbs up grip for it, it improves holding and handling immensely.

I don't think I have ever cared how pretty a lens is. Like people, it is what's inside that counts.

I thought the 35mm f/2 was hideous, too (for reasons I can't quite put my finger on). AF speed is/was important to me, though, as was price, so I bought it anyway, as my first Fuji lens.

But now that I've actually used it, it's my favorite lens and rarely leaves the camera unless I need my telephoto for motorsports, or something wider for landscapes. I think you should give it a chance. I also had the 27mm for a couple of months, but we didn't really get along.

I like my 35/1.4 - I have had it since the beginning 2 years ago. But it being a 50mm eq it is too close for me. My favorite is the 23/1.4 - I know it is bigger & heavier, but boy oh boy, does it produce photos - and being a 35mm eq. it is just more all-purpose for me. I also have the 27 - I have let a friend use it and haven't asked for it back - just didn't get along - great photos but never got used to sans aperture ring.

I know this probably doesn't help much, but maybe it is worth .02!

I think that I will go out with my Nik D 300s (APS-C sensor) and zoom lens to downtown and set it to 18mm, 23mm, 27mm and 35mm and see which FL I prefer.
That will narrow down what lenses that I should consider.

One last thing. Where is the video button on the XE-2? I don't shoot video much, but I have a lot of video clips of my feet from my Sony RX 100 MI because the button is very easy to hit accidentally.

^^ It's on the top plate, just to the right of the shutter/on/off button and switch. Although close to it, I have never hit it by mistake. By the way, it is marked "Fn".

Amazon has a sale on the XE-2s kit with the EBC XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 LM OIS lens for $ 999. I was about to order it, but I could not find anywhere that it had a USA warranty. It said to contact customer service about the warranty. I have to assume that this is a gray market camera and lens.
I went to B&H and they had the same $ 999 kit price, but again nothing mentioned about a USA warranty.
Both places offer a drop and spill policy, but I don't know if that is only for drop and spill or regular warranty problems.
Anyone know anything about this deal? I haven't checked Adorama yet to see if it is exactly the same.
This would only be about $ 280 more than the kit lens 16-50mm

Adorama has the same sale. They list what is in the box and the last item is a

Fujifilm 1 year limited warranty, but no mention of US or USA warranty.

I'm a paid b&s member here, so I'm not tying to get around the rules. But I just had to buy my XT2 with the 18-55 paired in a kit. I already own the 18-55 so will be selling my clean X-E2 with the mint new unused lens for 600 in the coming week. Just thought I would throw this deal out there, so someone doesn't drop a grand and wants to save some $$.

I'm not a b&s member. I don't know if that makes a difference for a sale.
Approx. how many clicks are on the body? Is it a black body? If it makes any difference, is it a gray market or a US model?
Is the lens the Fuji Super EBC XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4R lens?

Is this an EX-2 body or an EX-2s body?

Thanks for the information.
I could never get an answer about the offer's warranty. Not even from Adorama where I asked at the website.
