The A6300 got released in March 2016 (barely 7 months ago) and a new version is already coming out?

Buying Sony gear is a riskier investment than playing the stock market roullete!

I'm curious to know if the only real update will be the IBIS (with yet another price bump) and when the public release date will be.

And the A6500 will have 5-axis IBIS, according to the rumours. Now, if Sony would introduce a couple of decent APS-C lenses, an excellent 16/2.0 and an excellent standard zoom, 16-50/2.8 in E mount.

I cannot understand what Sony is thinking. Why not put it on A6300 in the first place. The tech is al already there anw

Couple things:

1. This is a rumor. It may well be true, but it's a rumor. We know nothing about actual specs/prices/release dates.

2. Contemporary digital cameras are NOT an investment. They never will be.

3. I find it funny when people get angry when a company innovates-- or at least has frequent updates to keep adding new hardware as it becomes available. You're not protecting your "investment" by hoping for a long upgrade cycle; the grass is not greener. Take a look at Canon, and see what protecting against hardware updates means. Take a look at Apples last 3 years of computer hardware releases. Is that really what you want? A 5D4 after the 5D3, or a Macbook Pro that's 3 years old hardware-- all at prices that haven't budged downward?

4. If you're worried about constantly losing money by buying the latest Sony gear... take a close look at the (pretty functional) strategy Chez (and I, when I have the chance) employs: when possible, buy a generation back. Your upgrade cycle can still be as fast (or slow) as new cycles, but you slip in after the big depreciation period.

5. "Tech" can have been available for a long time before it makes competitive sense to add it to your camera (or product). A major factor is cost and availability. Aren't you glad Sony released an A6300 without IBIS when it did-- if the alternative was having to kick the price of that camera up by $300-500 more way back then? And then Sony releases (if it is what happens) an upgraded version at no or marginal price increase 8-12 months later once the tech become more affordable (or had fewer overheating problems, or can be made small enough...)?

6. I understand that there's a psychological issue when you buy something and then something better comes out shortly afterward. It's frustrating. But often if you step back you realize a faster pace of innovation and upgrade-- with the right strategy (buy new, all the time, if money doesn't matter; buy a generation back if money matters)-- can be quite beneficial. You don't get burned by a fast upgrade cycle. You get more options are more price points, and more advances. Again, look at Canon: 3 year cycles, through the duration of which the cameras lag in many ways (but not all; Canon has some great feature) the competition, only to release a new product at full-fat prices that doesn't even leapfrog the competition's older tech.

7. Hoping for innovative, class-leading products-- only up until you buy, and then hoping for stagnation... is a false promise. It only works if your plan is to buy all-in now, and then sit on your gear forever. It's a losing strategy over the longterm.

First, I hope this is true. It helps me lower my GAS, knowing a new replacement is always around the corner so there's no need to jump on the latest.

Second, SAR is a click bait site. It's probably reporting some Japanese rumor site reporting rumors that probably originated on SAR itself. This would not be the first time. It's likely the aps-c a5 series with no IBIS.

Do I believe this SR5 level rumor? No. Do I hope it's true? Yes.

If Sony were to make a follow on this soon, why not make a higher end one, let's say a7000, with even faster AF and better body.

Now that's a big F U from Sony.

Lacking IBIS is by far the main complaints of a6300.

Now a mere 6-7 months later they are going to release one with IBIS

Like someone has said above the tech was available the back then, the sole reason of releasing the IBIS-less a6300 was so that they can now release this at $2k.

No Sony....just no.

Fuji X-T2 is driving Sony to release the 6500, i would think. Hopefully, it will have lossless 14bit output to go against the X-T2.

The real issue is lenses. I'm going to Photo Plus this year so if Sony releases it, maybe it'll draw more attention there and let me roam around easier.

One has To wonder how it'll affect size. If the 6500 is simply the 6300 with IBIS then it'll probably grow a little in size and go up in market. It wouldn't shock me to see this priced t $1,599 like the X-T2. Maybe a return to the Tri-Navi from the NEX-7. I've been hoping for a NEX-7 type body for a while now. But one has to wonder about size, weight, price. Anything else besides IBIS. Same old Bionz X processor? Same old UHs-I card support so your camera locks up for 10-12 seconds following a 2 second burst? Same old 11 FPS with a 21 shot buffer? Same old 16-50 kit lens with no fast zooms? Same old needing to use FE lenses if you want the gaps in the lineup?

There are differences between Fuji "Kaizen" and Sony " Kaizen".

Not to mention dual UHSII SD slots, deeper buffer, touchscreen, knob to directly control AF point and 1-2 new aps-c E mount lens?

Hope Sony's current "new body release means new lens release" applies to APS-C, too! Then again, I hope GM doesn't apply to APS-C, too.

What @justruss said. Quit whining and use what you've got or upgrade. It's a simple choice. If you're always waiting on the next best thing, then you'll just always be waiting.

I may grab one as backup or the 6300 depending on cost difference. I welcome all new product be it I need it or not. They are innovating you can't complain about the effort folks. Does not mean what you have all of a sudden became a dinosaur. This is not a investment hobby, your going to lose money when you sell your gear.

This is a circularly referenced rumor, it does not make sense on so many levels.

If true, the price of the IBIS-enabled A6500 will be very close to the full frame A7II, and probably just as large. Why would anyone not want an A7II then?

They are announcing today according to SAR . Leaked photo I see 2 custom function buttons on top deck instead of 1 on 6300. So more like the A7rII. If that's the case I would get the 6500 for that alone over the 6300

The attitude on these threads is about as bewildering to me as when people start to go off on Sony for "only" making big, heavy, expensive lenses.

If you don't like it, move along.

How many times do people need to be told that their camera didn't all of a sudden start taking worse pictures because a new one was released?

Living in the burbs of Chicago (literally a photographic wasteland) I tend to be most active in photography during my Spring/Summer travels - and in the past 3yrs I've owned 3 Sony cameras (a7r, a7ii, and the a7r2) and combined not lost much money in resales because i tend to buy when there's a sale or discount and sell while the item is still 'current'. I bought the a7r2 from greentoe in Feb of this year and sold it last month and it only cost me $125 (incl the shipping/fees i paid to sell) to own it for the year and to capture about 500 keepers (out of perhaps 7,500 shots) that i'll enjoy for a lifetime.

Frankly, the rapid pace of new releases is fantastic for prudent owners because owning the 'prior' generation can probably be done for nearly zero cost - if you buy used and sell in about a year, you'll probably lose nothing.

Much faster AF on the A6300 and most likely they bumped the speed up on the 6500. I think more to it than just IBIS . But truth be told many complaints about the 6300 not having IBIS so Sony listened and fixed it. My guess price 1299.00 for body only. Will see
