p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Bird Photography in Phoenix

I'll be in phoenix the next several days and hope to have a free day on Sunday. I was hoping to find a great place to do some bird photography.

Planning on bringing my 5dmkiii, 7dmkii, 70-200 is ii, 1.4xiii, and possibly my 400mm f5.6 but may leave it home and rent the 100-400 is ii.

Ive done some searches and found a few places:
Gilbert Riparian Preserve
Hassayampa Preserve
Boyce Thompson Arboretum

Thoughts and suggestions would be very appreciated. I fly out tomorrow.

Two suggestions:

1. There's the lake at the Phoenix zoo. The birds are free to roam/fly/etc there.

455 North Galvin Parkway,
Phoenix, AZ 85008

2. Desert Botanical Garden - down the street from the zoo.
1201 N. Galvin Parkway
Phoenix, AZ 85008

The Hassayampa Preserve is quite a ways out of town, and I have not seen a lot of birds there.

Both Hassayampa Preserve and Boyce Thompson are quite a drive from Phoenix.

For bird photography, your best bet is Gilbert Water Ranch. There are quite a few birds at Salt River, but you have to look for them, while Gilbert Water Ranch they are literally everywhere.
