I have two 1Dx2's and the shutter went out on one of them at 18K clicks
CPS was fantastic, repaired & returned in 3 days

but, was wondering if this is a fluke? or have others had similar issues?
hoping I don't have a lemon body here, too soon to know for sure

The shutter life expectancy is an average. For every one that goes way over there is one that doesn't make it. It's a moving part that is going to fail. Just a matter of when.

I wouldn't tie it to having a lemon body.

understand that, and as the owner of a ton of bodies, I expect it, just not on a 2 month old body with only 18,000 clicks on it

Long long time ago, I had a brand new 1D IIn fail within 30 days and less than 6,000 clicks but my other body went over 100,000 clicks without a hiccup.

We use to attribute this to "infant mortality" and the chances of it failing is greater earlier in life.

I have learned not to use a brand-new equipment as a primary and always have a backup should the "young one" fail.

I just walked out to my car, and swapped to my other 1Dx2

never leave home without backup , sometimes backups to the backups
this is my 12th or 13th body, and the first infant mortality in the bunch, guess it was my time

at least CPS was awesome, as always, and had it back to me in 3 days, unlike my poor NPS friends who are still waiting for their repairs

Yes it's a fluke, and I wouldn't worry. Had one go out at 13k on a old 1D series a number of years ago. CPS was great then too

Just like Lewis Hamilton's motor was designed to survive for 4-5 races and didn't make it through the first race it was used in - and that's gear that is costing millions per sample, manufactured to much tighter tolerances and over-engineered to the extreme and still the manufacturers are not exempt from the odd failure of the percentage game... I had a 40D shutter fail at 4000 actuation's and Canon repaired it, still working today...
