Thanks for posting these Robert.

Of course you know that someone is going to shoot you down for posting Canon images on the Nikon thread, don't you?

OOOOPs I'm sorry, I didn't notice I can delete if needed. Just say the word.

Hey, I could care less. Since the Tamron can also be used on Nikons, it seems like no big deal to me.

There are some though that get their panties in a knot. And I could care less if someone posts a Nikon/Tamron shot on the Canon Forum.

Just leave the posting here. If someone gets that excited, they can contact the Moderator.

You could also post it on the Canon Forum though.

Hehe I get it....I do notice many here (and elsewhere) take photography way more seriously than I do but I like it here and must keep my neighbors happy

Hopefully soon I'll be able to do a Sigma vs Tamron shoot out. I will be getting the D500 + Tamron G2 and will be able to compare it to 1DX/5DsR + Sigma C. I love my Sigma C, but I also think this Tamron looks very good so why not get it for the Nikon. My only slight hesitation is should I get the 200-500 f/5.6 instead. I like the idea of extra 100mm for birding even on a crop.

I hope you are also going to get the new Sony A6500 & Tamron Sony-mount to go with it.

Imagemaster, will the a6500 allow for zone AF via the LAEA-3 and the Tamron G2 ??

I got an opportunity to play with the Tamron G2 over the last week and I'm pretty impressed with it. Image stabilization works great, much improved over the first gen. AF is fast enough but still not a speed demon. The IQ is fantastic, my copy is very sharp at 600mm wide open. I'd say it compares very well to our copy of the 200-500. This weekend I'll do some AF testing with it to see if it needs any fine tuning with our bodies and I'll take some test shots to compare with the 200-500.

I am curious re. this lens vs. the Sigma Sport. I've considered that, but really yearn for a 500mm f4. Even with a 1.4 tc on the 500m, I'm thinking it would be sharper? And I wonder about AF speed between the three.

Some zooms are as sharp or sharper than some primes with the same maximum focal length.

Please explain how an f5.6 zoom lens gives you less light than an f5.6 prime lens.

Easy. Zoom lenses are more complex optically, having more elements in more groups. With each lens element you lose a bit of ligh due to transmission losses and reflection off the surface. Manufacturers don't usually publish "T Stop" data, only "F Stop".

All else being equal, yes. However, in practice zoom lenses often do have better transmission than primes. Comparing the Sigma 120-300 f2.8 Sport to the Canon 300mm f2.8 L IS II and the Nikon 300mm f2.8 VR II, the Sigma has a slightly lower T-stop than the Nikon at 300mm, and a significantly lower T-stop than the Canon.

I posted a couple of comparisons with the 200-500 f5.6 and the new G2 Tamron in the the 200-500 f5.6 thread a couple of weeks ago.
Got a couple more today of the same subject for a comparison.
My wife was using the 200-500 on a D7200 and I was using the 150-600 on a D7000.
This is not scientific but shows real world results from both lens.
These were from about 60 yards and the lighting was pretty harsh from the backside.
From an IQ standpoint I think the new tamron does a pretty decent job.

I own the original version of the Tamron 150-600mm and like it a lot. Its not quite as sharp at the Sigma Sport, but its substantially lighter and a few inches shorter - making it much easier to handhold - and to lug into the back country. I'm debating whether its worth upgrading to the G2. Has anyone done an objective comparison of the two? Are the weight and size identical?

I shot the G1 on a 6D/7D mkii IQ was never a concern. Center sharpness may have even been a little better than my 200-500. The issue was AF. Lots of hunting in lower light situations and it really struggled with BIF. If I was buying today I'd have to go with the nikon only because I know it's proven in the af department(all be it a tad slow) and because they are priced the same. But I'm not buying today and am waiting on more reviews with detailed af comparisons.

I got a copy of the new Tamron 150-600mm G2 with its dedicated TCx1.4 to test for one week on the D500, D800 and D4s.
After two days of shooting, I'm quite impressed with this zoom-lens. Compared to my Tamron 150-600mm G1, this new version is better in every aspects. And now I can shoot pretty much everything hand held @840mm!!!

D500, with TCx1.4, @840mm, f/9.

Nice images......
btw, how was the AF with 1.4X TC, on with D500 ??
If the bare G1 was 7 out of 10, how would you rate this one on 10, for AF factor only, with TC attached ?

Been playing around with the AF fine tune today. Here are some some usual suspects out of the backyard on a cloudy day. Think the new Tamron is a keeper, D7000 and Tamron G2.
