Hello peoples...

I don't use the 200 f2 VRI so often. So there ist a squeak at the first autofocus work. Becomes quiet after a few activities.

After a few days without using the same symptome with the squeaking.
The Lens is standing in its bag when not used.

Compared to a 2 week old VRII the autofocus motor of my VRI is a bit louder and a tiny bit slower.

Is the USM-motor dying?

Does anyone have had the same problems with this, or a similar lens?

Very common with the VRI version...

It is likely just due to lack of use... that's what Nikon said when it happened to mine.

They didn't replace the motor... said it was normal. Mine was exactly the same as yours... squeaked on initial use, then stopped.

Some others have reported that this is a sign of impending failure.

I would just use it... and not worry about it for now.

My 180mm f/2.8 doesn't squeak.

Mine would squeeke just a bit when I first bought it, but haven't noticed it doing so recently. It has been reported that the version 1 does have a habit of doing so after being inactive for awhile so I wouldn't worry about it.

As i see this is not the first chubby who suffers from this problem.

Contacting NIKON next week would be the right way.
