p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 1Dx or 1dx2 late afternoon football

Shooting NCAA football and I've run into 3:30 start times here in the Midwest.

The light gets a little thin in the third and fourth quarters. I have 1dx bodies, and all Canon 70-200 2.8, 400 2.8, 200-400 f4, and the converters.

Do you think I would do better w a 1dx2, and if so, by how much.

I am talking essentially about ISO performance, especially in the greater than 800 range.

Many thanks!

This is not based on direct experience so consider this just a data point, but based on the published reviews and tests which I have reviewed, I don't think you would see a huge difference in noise shooting RAW, but possibly some DR gains. I'm not so sure about JPEG though. Both cameras are close to the best available from Canon.

You may want to cross-post this in the Sports forum too.

You will not see better IC from the 1DxII. The 1DxII shoots more frames per second and I think I have a slightly higher keeper rate with the 1DxII, but not by a huge amount.

Stick with 1DX and save a ton of money.

I have both and see no high ISO advantage for the 1DX2. If that is the metric you are concerned about then stick with your 1DX's.

Talk about choices. Either one will get the job done.

The high ISO files of ver II require slightly different processing but nothing radical. One small but nice advantage of ver II is that they brought back the red focus point which is helpful when shooting in low light venues.

Any difference in metering that requires extra PP? I've experienced a difference between 1d4 and 1dx in daylight sports.

I have found the files require a different style of processing where Mk4 to X was very similar.
Great looking finished files just different processing path.
Unless you will need a massive shadow boost a 1Dx would be fine it's a stellar camera and still an amazing camera.
