I would like to describe how my two TAP adapters behave on my A7rII and A9.
But first recall from the TECHART LM-EA7 Mount Adaptor Operrating instructions this page:

It shows the F-number settings one can choose to accomplish certain things.
I have in both cameras set F36 and shot an image.
Then either chosen F25 or F29 for my adapted lenses, shot a white image, and dialed the camera F-number to 2 and left it there.
As we know the actual F-number is mechanically set on the adapted lens.
I am using A mode, AF-C, and Flexible Spot S.

Cameras switched off, then attaching the TAP with lens.
Now, when I switch on the cameras, the TAP pushes out and then retracts, ready to be used with AF.
Now when switching a camera off, the TAP retracts all the way to the infinity focus position.
So far as I had expected.

Switching the camera back on, I hear a little noise, but the TAP doesn't push out the lens.
It simply stays at the retracted infinity position.
However, the TAP is nevertheless ready to be used with AF.
Simply point the lens at something and halfway press the shutter button. It autofocuses just fine.
Switch camera off and on, the same pattern happens again, etc.

Now switch camera off, detach the TAP just a bit so that there is no electrical contact, then attach again fully.
When switching the camera now on, the TAP pushes out and retracts, same behavior as when first attaching the TAP to the camera.

One more AF observation. The A9 with TAP successfully focuses in dim light when the A7rII is unable to.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I would like to address an additional unrelated point when using lots of lenses with different focal lengths.
In this case it would be advantageous if one didn't have to use the Menu to switch IBIS on or off, or select the proper IBIS focal length.
In the following chart I show how to accomplish that for the A7rII and A9:

Of course Sony calls IBIS SteadyShot. One has to use 3 buttons to completely control SteadyShot without consulting the Menu.

The chart also shows my settings for the A7r and the a6300 that don't have IBIS=SteadyShot functionality.
While the A7r cannot be used with the TAP, the a6300 has support for the TAP.
The a6300 behaves similarly with TAP as the above described FF Sony cameras.
It also has the better AF in dim light, similar to the A9.

One more thing. I first have to attach the TAP to the a6300 before I attach the Meike battery grip.
Otherwise the Meike battery grip interferes with attaching the TAP. Such is life! Oh well.
BTW there is no such interference with the battery grip on the A7rII or A9.

AF/MF Ctrl Toggle is useful to switch back and forth between AF and MF.
Focus Magnifier for me is essential when using MF.
And finally the In-Camera Guide is handy when in the Menu.

K-H.

Hi,

I bought LM-EA7directly from Techart site on September 12th 2016. It was functioning until end of july when suddenly stopped. As the site states One Year Warranty, I asked through the contact page (http://techartpro.com/contact-us/) several times but no answer. The site doesn't mention an address to send it back. Where can I send to have it replaced?

Regards,

Techart definitely aren't known for responding promptly to customers contacting them about problems with the TAP they purchased and I suspect they are completely preoccupied with their recent release of a Canon EF to Fujifilm GFX adapter.

However, FM member (and Techart staffer) techartpro recently commented on the thread about the Fotodiox Pronto ripoff of the TAP. In your situation I would send him a PM telling him of the problem you described in your post.

I have the same experience with them. My TAP doesn't do anything on the A7II, but strangely it still works on the A7RII.
So far it seems impossible to get any reaction from Techart.

Perhaps you should also PM techartpro about your issue.

Interesting. I had the same issue with a used TAP that I bought on ebay.

On my A7ii it worked very sporadically.
On average, out of 20 times of turning the camera on it on it would initialize correctly and then function for a while.
Most of the time it simply didn't do anything.

Just to be sure, I always took the battery out and dismounted the adapter between successive tries.
The seller initially refused to take it back as he said it worked fine on his A7r II before he sent it.
I eventually got him to take it back and he claims it works 100% on his A7rII even after I returned it.

I will stay away from the TAP, too unreliable.
I contrast, my Techart GA3 for Contax G has been quite dependable.

edited to add:
I had previously tried a TAP from a local dealer - that one worked ok, so I think I can rule out that it was my copy of the A7ii.

As far as I know the TAP is for M-mount only, and there's no SpeedBooster that takes any lens down to an M-mount, so unless I'm missing something I'm not sure how you would be able to use it.

Anyone know of a a-mount to m-mount adapter that works with the TAP? I have some a-mount screw driven lenses I'd love try on my A9. I don't see any listed on the FAQ with the other mounts.

Somewhat expensive, but this might do the trick:

Kipon Adapter for Minolta AF/Sony Alpha Lens to Live view Leica M Typ 240 Camera

However the fact that it's an A-mount to M-mount adapter in no way guarantees that it will work with the TAP. Given its cost, you'd be well advised to purchase one only if the seller has an unconditional return policy.

For a mount try the Sony LA-EA4, one adapter Sony created for this purpose rather than a stack of adapters.

I bought the TAP new at the B&H deal for 249 and I get it Friday but Iím going to return it unless someone wants it here. Little change of direction. I rather just use my CV 35 in manual mode. PM me if you want it at 240.00

Iíll list it Friday if no one commits to it now.

I've owned one a couple times. I found the AF module (ported from the ancient a65) frustrating and insufficient for essentially anything moving. No EyeAF, loss of light and center focus only, not great on lowlight, plus its large. I typically have several lenses that are TAPable, so I'd prefer a m mount adapter. I also like the close focusing of the TAP. It's one of my most used aspects of it.

Thanks for the link Phillip. A bit pricey :/
