p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Canon 5D Mark IV goes to Disney - real world photos/review | |
I decided to share some of my first photos with the Canon 5D Mark IV and give some of my thoughts about the camera. I also posted a YouTube video going through a bunch of photos in Lightroom and talking about what I liked so far about the camera. If you want to check that out, feel free also.
So my experience with the 5DIV has been good so far, at least from the photography side. I honestly haven't had a chance to check out the video, but hope to soon. I decided to take a quick trip to Disney to test out the photography features of the camera, especially low light capability. Compared to my 5DIII, the focus feel much quicker. High ISO also is pretty amazing. I have usable images at 25,600. The dark rides in particular are insanely difficult to shoot, but I was able to come home with some surprisingly good photos! These were all raw files processed in Lightroom.
I wanted to start off with my favorites...fireworks! Definitely handled long exposure well!

That's me in this photo. I was taking pictures of this lady, and she decided she wanted a photo with me. I was using my 35mm at 1.4 to blur the background. Normally I would never hand my camera to a random person with the aperture set to 1.4 and expect any sort of good photo. I turned on the screen and told him to just press on my face and it would focus and take the picture automatically. Really cool use for live view and DPAF imo! I'll definitely be using that feature again!
The last few are before and afters. I was pleasantly surprised at how far I could push the shadows in Lightroom. It definitely felt like a lot more dynamic range than the 5DIII. I shot some of these underexposed (or exposed for the sky) on purpose to test this out.
