I've shot a few of these while living in Texas years ago and I saw a couple at the Coalfield Rest Stop south of Springfield, IL (northbound I55). They are handsome birds.

An invasive species that has been spreading like crazy in North America.

Nice shots!

I'm not really rooting for them, but they seem to be filling something that is missing in the whole ecosystem. It may be they are doing it at the expense of others I guess we'll need to wait and see. They are good looking birds. They taste pretty good too.

Sorry Mike, upon reading my earlier message, I realize that it perhaps came across as a bit snarky. Please be assured that was not my intent.

It wasn't taken that way, I'm no fan of invasive species. Apart from Pheasants, Huns, and Chukker there really aren't any introduced birds with a positive impact.

Is this one better? It was so dark I couldn't go to f/8 or f/11 or a faster shutter to get everything in focus and sharp.

Nice set. Looks like it is nest building.

While living in Texas we saw a lot of them when migrating and always enjoyed them a lot.

They are so much larger than, say, a mourning dove and their ghost-like gray coloring is beautiful (my opinion of course).

Nice pictures...enjoyed a lot.

It is interesting that on the northern Oregon coast these days, every other dove I see is a collared dove, whereas they don't seem to be quite as common inland in the Portland metro area.
