p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Pollination

Yesterday I was inspired by Birdie's work with her 200mm f4 so I went out with my 180mm f2.8 for a change of pace. I found these bushes at Oakland Lake with a few bees going from flower to flower. I did not have my tubes with me so these are mostly crops. At first I tried tracking the bees the way I do birds manually moving the focus point and when that proved not to work that well I switched to 3D Color Matrix tracking and magic happened. The bocah of this lens is also magical.

Very well done Morris. I don't know what type of tracking you have, but the results speak loudly ~ Ron

Thank you Ron,

3D color matrix tracking is a standard feature of high end Nikon bodies. It uses color and contrast to help track the subject. You start by placing the active focus point on the subject, give it a moment to identify it and then where ever the subject moves in the frame the nearest focus point is selected.

Morris, these are wonderful !! Love the ones with the yellow backgrounds.

I never thought to try 3D on these types of subjects. I always was under the impression it would tend to go to the object closest to the camera. Will have to give 3D a try as long as there is some color difference in the subject and surrounding area.

Thank you Roberta,
I think you are confusing 3D's predecessor closest subject or possibly automatic.
