p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Red Velvet Mite

These mites are seen occasionally on plants or on concrete, brick, etc. in sunshine. They are red/orange. Being very active, it is usually difficult to get good images.

I had two separate encounters this month, with one on a twig and with another on a leaf.

These two were a little less active than some and I even managed a crosseye stereo.

EM-1, Reversed Schneider HM40 plus Kiron x1.4, f16, twin TTL flash, hand-held.

Thanks, Brian.

They don't hang around. All encounters are occasional, brief, mostly very brief. All of mine, over many years, were in warm sunshine.

So that's what they look like up close. I've seen a few of these red mites around, but they run too fast for me to track.

Nice work Harold.

Thanks. Yes, they are fast. This is far from my first attempt.
