p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · advice on window light placement

I am in the middle of construction of my photography/music/ man cave studio. The entire area is aprox 16x35. I found a great deal on craigslist for some big/long windows. I want to use it for natural side lighting. window is aprox 3'x5'. In proximity to backwall/backdrop how far up side wall would you put window. Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

A customary rule for portrait is ensuring key light hits the face from 45º to the side and 45º up. Naturally, you are free to adjust to taste. So, decide where your sitter will be positioned, and how high, then extend the key angle to the wall. There's your window placement.

Unless the window view is attractive for closeup catchlights, you could just use a softbox or reflector bounce to simulate natural light, and gain the convenience of flash and mobility.

For a window that large it is pretty unimportant.
