Took my new X-T2 out for its first test run today... unfortunately I ignored one of my own cardinal rules and left the tripod in the car, so I am going to have to go back again and revisit the area before all the leaves are gone.

Not picture but question this time. I hope it’s fine as I need help learning from landscape shooters. I usually shoot family portrait and use AF. Now we’re going to travel and I need to learn to do more landscape.

I just acquired the x-e3 and the 23mm f/2. What is the best way to achieve the infinity focus for landscape? Thanks.

Here's a composite image taken in September of the "harvest moon", from Fair Oaks in California. The environment was shot with the Touit 12/2.8 and the moon with the 100-400. Blending in PS was a PIA. I tried to make the moon the same size as it appeared to my eyes on the night.

Infinity focus? I would just focus on the horizon or some other distant object. For landscapes I usually put my focus point on the most important subject and shoot at F8. Sometimes I will take 3 shots with the focal point in the foreground, midground and background, and blend in post.

I think some Fuji lenses have a distance scale on them but since it's focus by wire I'm not sure how well it works. You could also buy a manual focus Rokinon lens and just rack the focus to the infinity symbol.

My Rokinon you cannot set focus to infinity. If you go that far you are past and everything is blurred. For my Fuji and Rokinon I use focus peaking, the dof scale and manual focus zoom window to refine infinity focus.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will experiment with the options because 23mm f2 does not have the distance scale.

I'm glad to see someone else enjoying this lens. They are so easily dismissed, sell for so cheaply on the big auction site, but they def. have some redeeming qualities!

Haven't posted in a while. Went on a short hike yesterday and grabbed this handheld. It's about a 4 pano stitch and converted in Nik SilverEfex

I think if you set the camera to manual focus, you should get an electronic distance scale in the viewfinder, then you can move it to infinity. May have to set the distance scale to display via your display settings. I don't yet have an x-e3 (arrives today) so I could be wrong, this is just based on what I remember from my X-E1 back in the day.

Cheers
Jonathan

Jonathon, the X-E3 does have a manual focus indicator (page 89 if the manual). Of course, it only works with Fuji lenses, not with alt lenses. It also has depth of field indicators.

I'm excited for you getting your X-E3. The more I use it, the better I like it. I used it over the weekend to photograph my grandson running cross country. It did an excellent job with continuous focus subject tracking, far better than my Canon 5D2.
