Just going through old files and pulled out these random shots taken in 2007. Believe all were with the 100-400.

You could drop an X in there and no one would know.

You nailed it, Paul Mo......

Yet again, literally and figuratively, this illustrates: It's not the camera, it's the driver!

AF: biggest disaster of the 1D series.

I agree with Gust. I've seen Tony's images with the 5DsR...these images don't hold a candle to them. There is little to no detail on the feathers, looks mushy for lack of a better word. Compare that first eagle to any of Tony's eagles in the last couple of weeks and the difference is unbelievable. So no doubt he knows what he's doing behind the camera, but the camera also makes a noticeable difference in the output.

How do you suppose Tony managed to get so many shots in perfect focus, if the AF was such a "disaster"?

Maybe Tony got a good one that wasn't afflicted by user error...

I will suggest it's sarcasm. Otherwise, someone still stinging from a bad 1Diii experience?

#2 is impressive if hand held. 1/30s with a 400/5.6 is damn good technique considering the subject is highly prone to show any smearing. Granted the 1D2 is only 8MP but still impressive.

That last one could have easily been posted to the 1DX2 thread and I doubt anyone would know the difference if you hid the metadata.

I used a couple 1D2's for many years. Not saying it is as good as it's successors but in the right light with the right skillset it could produce remarkably good output.

I loved my pair of 1D2's! I only sold them after getting a 1D3 and found I wasn't using the "old" 1D2's any more. The 1D2 was a great 8MP camera!

I bought two when they first came out. Great, solid cameras. The 8.2 megapixel image size is sufficient for most photographic needs and I used them professionally for several years.

When it came time to upgrade, I didn't buy the 1D III bodies because of the reported autofocus issues, which is ironic because I bought 5D II bodies which are just horrible for action! Live and learn.

A helluva camera. Can't believe it's been, like, 12 years...

(The 85mm shots here are with the 85L Mark I. The last image with the 400 was made with my first copy of the 400 DO, which was sadly stolen in India a couple of years later...)

The 1D2 was my first drink of the 1D** Kool-Aid.... There is no cure for this ailment!

There's no profit in cures, only treatments.

I feel it was the first really good digital camera. Others have their merits but the 1D markII was the one that got nearly everyone over to digital.

For action photography, sure.
