Thank you Tom. They are both bamboos, about 20 feet tall in the first, barely a foot in the second.

I agree, keep it simple if possible. I really like #2 with its uniform lines and pockets of black. Santiago, I notice much of your work has a grainy look to it. I don't mean that in a bad way, there is nothing wrong with that, I was just curious why?

Hi Dale and thanks for the comment and the question.
The first one has added grain, and the result of it is what you see.
The second image doesn't have added grain. It is about an 80% crop of the original image, a straight BW conversion that was then underexposed, by about less than a stop. The leaves showed a lot of lighter streaks, perhaps due to the heat wave at that time, or because of some viral or fungal disease. In the original file that translates into a pattern of different colors, not so interesting, however in BW that translates into a textural world that pulled me into taking the photo.

A fine juxtapositioning of bamboos tall and short.

Many thanks, Rick.
Despite their differences, they are, in their essence, the same.

I like both of these. The trunks have presence. There's a nice balance there, a good composition and fine play with texture and tones. The abstraction of foliage draws you into its complexity.

Thanks a lot pj. I found it an interesting way to look at a different world, that shares nonetheless many similarities with ours.

It appears you purposely wanted these grainy but large bamboo is not naturally grainy but quite smooth so it looks too unnatural for me
