The first one has added grain, and the result of it is what you see.
The second image doesn't have added grain. It is about an 80% crop of the original image, a straight BW conversion that was then underexposed, by about less than a stop. The leaves showed a lot of lighter streaks, perhaps due to the heat wave at that time, or because of some viral or fungal disease. In the original file that translates into a pattern of different colors, not so interesting, however in BW that translates into a textural world that pulled me into taking the photo.
