Surely you don't believe that the closest Nikon has come to Canon lenses is with the AF-P kit lenses for the D3400...
The AF-P lenses use stepping motors to drive the AF assembly, and is mostly done for quieter AF during video (they are quieter than the DC micro motors commonly found in the cheap lenses). Lots of mirrorless camera lenses have stepping motors as well, as they lend themselves well to CDAF applications. They really aren't anything special, and have been around for decades, but they are better than the cheapest micro motors today.
Ring motors are the best, but they are more expensive and don't always work with the lens design. They are the fastest, quietest, and support manual AF override.
