I would guess it would be Art. The Contemporary line is really basically the budget/consumer line. Sports really seems to mean telephotos (makes sense) which the 24-70 is not. Add to that that 24-70 is a bread-and-butter Pro lens and lately has become something of a flagship lens for the manufacturers and that the Art label is associated with Sigma's new super high performance/flagship primes. Although to your point, I don't think they've made an Art Prime.
As might be obviously, I am very interested in Sigma to make a new 24-70 (ideally stabilized) and I think these discounts start to hint at it getting closer....Show more →
Yeah, maybe. There are only 2 in the sports line and they are big long tele zooms, but it is too soon to tell. I'd wager that if they update their 70-200, at least one version would be a Sport version. Could they do a 24-70 Sport with multi-focus modes and make it consistent with the others? Maybe. There are only a handful of lenses in the Contemporary lineup as well, and they mostly look like legacy Sigma lenses with a cosmetic (maybe more) refresh (17-70 for example). I could see an inexpensive 24-70 falling into this category. Most of the exciting stuff is in the Art line, though. Not sure what your last comment was about prime lenses. There are both prime and zoom Art lenses, though more primes at this point.
