p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · D500 - can't move AF point

I was shooting today in AF-C 3D Tracking and everything was normal. At the end of the day, I switched t AF-S S, and discovered I can't move my AF point any more. I tried other AF modes and no joy. I hope I changed something accidentally and any idea what that may have been? I was shooting a tennis tournament, and was going through different settings, but have no idea what I could've done. I've got another day long shoot on Saturday and would hate to do a full reset.

Thanks for any help.

check your multi selector and make sure its not in the L position. it should be on the dot.

Move the Lock switch to unlocked. The lever surrounding the selection 8-way button.

I had that happen on Wednesday. Took me 10 mins of playing around with the menu till I finally realized it was the physical Lock switch. With the lock switch on L both my joystick and the directional pad wouldn't move the focus points yet would work in the menus. The good thing is once it happens once you won't forget about it next time.

The other really common thing I find people run into is formatting the card on some bodies. On the higher end bodies, they have both a multi selector and an "OK" button. To format a card, you can get right to the last step by using the center of the multi selector as an "enter" or "ok" action, but you can't confirm the format without hitting the actual "OK" button on the bottom left. I can't tell you how many threads I have seen that go like "New D810 - can't format card" haha. It happens to you once and then never again.

No, I'm not going to forget that one.

I sit ached from Canon in June and still making mistakes because of those differences. Add in switching back and forth between a D500 and D750, and it's a challenge when under pressure. To resolve the body differences issue, I've determined I need to upgrade the D750 to a D5. It's just a short mental decision, but the financial end, I need to keep working on justifying it in my mind. You know how that goes
