The Town Of Hempstead chose some lovley materials for the replacement walkways in the preserve following Hurricane Sandy. When I spotted the heron I knew I would be fighting the perch and needed to get everything else correct to make the photos sing so I looked for a spot with a good background and angle. Then planted my tripod by turning my back to the heron so that the legs swinging down did not spook it. Then I composed and waited for nice poses.
