Huge price drop: Canon EOS-1D C at $4,999!
Canon just dropped $3,000 on their Canon EOS-1D C body.

The current price after instant savings is now $4,999!
This is still a very capable professional stills camera with amazing 4k image quality. I bought mine for $12,000 not too long ago.

Specs say 4K, but then goes on to say 1920 x 1080 Full HD Video

Which is it?

It does both. Full HD and 4K.

It's basically a 1Dx with a different firmware.

If only Magic Lantern was allowed to do the 1D bodies.

Only $1K less than 1DXII, still not worth it IMO. What does it bring to the table the 1DXII doesn't offer other than C log for video (Canon took it out fo 1DXII!). The tests I've seen shown not much difference in video except for the HD mode where 1DC offers super 35 crop mode and is much much better than the 1DXII's FF mode. They rate that mode as useless on the 1DXII. 1DXII has much better rolling shutter performance

And a HUGE heat sink on the sensor.

Which due to improvements in design, circuitry etc the 1DXII does not need yet can shoot 4K@60fps, pretty impressive.

What would be the point when the 1DX II shoots 4K?

Has the size of the heatsink ever been revealed? I don't recall seeing a teardown, plus I doubt there is very much space behind the sensor in a 1DX.

I've always thought the whole "but it's got a heatsink" was just Canon's desperate attempt to justify charging $6,000 for a firmware upgrade...

FYI...B&H will NOT be reducing the Used bodies accordingly!

They will all stay the same price while the new ones are now $4995.

Just in case anyone was wondering if the Used prices would drop now...

I was just asking. If the 1DXII can video day in and day out then I suppose that is the answer.

The question is why Canon didn't include "C-log" or 4K output for the 1DXII?
Perhaps we will have a CII version with C-log2 and other tools like zebra and peaking.

Selling points of a 1DC over a 1DX II for me are unlimited record time on the 1DC (the 1DX II can only record up to 29minutes, 59 seconds before stopping), CLog, and the Super 35mm crop mode. The Super 35mm crop mode pretty much matches my Canon C300 in sharpness.

I would buy a 1DX II today if it had all of those missing features.

I love that you can pull 8MP stills off the Super 35 video. The test shots I got were impressive. Great camera!

Tesla is contemplating a ~$9k firmware/software upgrade to extend the range on an upcoming vehicle... makes the Canon seem cheap in comparison.

Becuase Fred they will announce a big video oriented fw update at some point IMO. The camera is so good, it's mind boggling why they'd skimp on features like that. I'll bet demand form pros will force their hand at some point.
