Gorgeous rendering and incredibly sharp. But, for a plastic lens thats is cheaply made in China it is way too expensive. Not to mention, parts will only be available for 10 years. Can't wait to see where the new 70-200 is made.
Why do you even care where a lens is made?
Have you experienced any quality control issues with the 105mm f1.4? I have not seen any problem with my copy.
I care about the value I get and this drives how much I am willing to pay for an item. I don't find the 105mm f1.4 expensive considering how close it is performance wise to my Zeiss Otus trio costing more than twice as much.
Overall, what you need to consider also is that the financial health of Nikon depends on their ability to produce at the cheapest possible cost the highest value items with the best possible quality. If me getting in Jan-2017 an amazing D900 at a decent price depends on Nikon manufacturing their 105mm f1.4 in China then this is the best option for Nikon and for me, as a customer invested in their system.
