I just got home from my annual visit to the Sunflower fields in Yolo county. The first one is a nice young field and they were all standing at attention. I took this one at predawn, it was just starting to get light (wait, isn't that the same a predawn :-)) .

The second one is another field at sunset.

The third one looks similar to the first one but is closer to the hills. To get a better view of the fields I bring a tall step ladder so I can shot down on the field. It is tempting, but you don't want to stand on the white boxes that are placed around the fields. :-)

Very nice.
I like the 1st one the most as I think the mountain starts competing for attention with the flowers in the other shots. The sky offers a more neutral complement in the top composition.

I'm fond of the way you placed the sunflowers in the foreground of the last Mr.Gale.

very nice. always love sunflower shot.
last one works for me best.
I would have like to not have the flowers cut off, would have been nice to be infront of the field I think than in the middle.

Thanks everyone for your comments, very much appreciated!

As aside note, it is my understanding that these fields are not grown for food or oil but the seeds are sold all over the world for planting. If you look at my photos you will see ~6 rows of the large Sunflowers than a couple of row of a small verity. The bees (the white boxes) cross pollinate the two creating a hybrid seed.

Thank you, Brian. The bad thing about photographing these fields is the best time to shoot them is before the sun hits and at sunset (for me) . That causes a problem, a lot of dead time in between.

The third is my favorite. Absolutely beautiful. I want to go there!

I'd also love to see more angles as well. I can't help but wonder what some of your lower angled photos look like, if you have any.

Minuscule note: could just be me or the mountain range in the back, but it looks like the horizon is ever-so-slightly off level to me.

Here is is an example of what the fields look like when the sun just starts lighting them. Now you can see why I like to photograph them before the sun comes up.

Oh wow - what a difference! Thank you for sharing this. This is just the kind of motivation I need to become a morning person.
