p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Help finding a grad filter

Hi,

I'm looking for a 46mm soft grad ND filter.

The thing that is making it hard to find is that I want the transition to be 1/3 of the way from the top (so the top third is darker, bottom 2/3 lighter).

The only ones I've been able to find are split right down the middle.

Anyone know of such a widget?

thanks,

Steve

why not just use the rectangular filters?

Because the lens is on a drone and weight is at a premium.

I suppose I could try and cut a rectangular one where I want it and then get it into a round filter frame, but I'd really just rather buy one.

Every round grand ND filter I've ever seen has the graduation dead center at the equator.

Thanks Henry - that's all I've seen too.

Goofy as typically that is not where the horizon is placed in photos.

Oh well - guess I'll figure out how to make one.

No, what you need is a rectangular and a holder thst allows you to pisition the "horizon" where you need it.

While I'd certainly do that with my ground based camera, this is on a drone.

The gimbal isn't strong enough to support a typical grad ND setup without adding balance weight to the back and then I'm cutting into my flight times.

I'm shooting a very standardized shot for an industry that wants the horizon at the top 1/3, and to be able to repeat the shot reliably.

I'll look at putting something together. Thanks.

Oh well. You have your variables and you choices. It is decision making time.
