these two shots I took looking in the sunset. I know one shows very little contrast, but shows more depth I think. which one looks better?

#1. Its a cleaner shot with more interesting sky. The foreground in #2 IMO does not add any strength to the picture.

I would agree w/Dave.
Other then the stronger colors, the sky in #2 doesn't help.
My choice is the 1st for it's "last light" feel

Can you re-spin #1 to produce a less wildly saturated sky? As-is, the orange completely overpowers the rest of the image, IMO.

For what it's worth because I'm very much a novice but I think the foreground in #2 adds some depth and makes for a more interesting image.

thank you. I am going to also print both in 4x6 and see more what it shows.
Greg, thanks for your suggestion. i did not selectively increase contrast on the sky. However, it is a 2 exposure blend, and on the dark exposure, the sky was quite yellow.
I will back of on general sat, and see if I like it better.

The first image by a lot, it's more complete or finished, with all those beautiful layers. #2 - the out crop, bottom right is very messy, so doesn't do much and the sky is so plain and empty.

Kevin,
#1 , if it were mine I would make a 6x17 of the top half of the image. To me the image lives in the beautiful layers. Regards Dean

thanks. neither looked all that great in print honestly, though the first one is more interesting. it just looks too dark in print.
