Very nice assortment of insect shots. That is one lens I have considered. No doubt it performs very well. I think the flash may have been a bit strong in the two spittle bug shots as the highlights are a little strong for my taste. Otherwise no complaints and the bee shots are exposed just right with excellent detail in the blacks.

Thanks for sharing Brian. Thanks to you I now know what a spittle bug looks like. See lots of spittle but never the donor! Lovely images.

Can you briefly explain why you prefer xerene to helicon focus?

Alan

Thanks for the comments Birdie, John and Alan

Alan - the spittle bug is actually the nymph - the adults don't produce spittle (see below for a shot of the nymph)
Re Zerene vs Helicon. For most stacks I suspect there is not much to choose between them but zerene is better at avoiding stacking mush (making a mess of low detail parts of the image). When I first compared them Helicon did not have a built in editor which is very useful but I believe it does now.
Advantages Helicon does have - it's faster and also does not replicate sensor spots.

Overall I suspect I'm really just rather used to using zerene
