are you going to switch to Nikon?
Thanks. I'm not switching to Nikon as I own too much nice Canon glass. Maybe in the future but for now I will just use the D500/200-500 as my high FPS crop body with handhold able glass combo.

How's the new camera and lens working out?
The pictures look good.

Thanks Dan. I'm really liking the combo. The AF consistency is the most impressive part and mostly the reason I wanted to try out the camera in the first place so I'm happy.

Beautiful work!!!
Love them all.
Do tell me how you are brave enough to take your camera rig in a kayak ??
Thanks MM. I feel very stable in the kayak even on the ocean. There is always insurance

This is an excelent set Geoff. Looks like the 500 + 500 is working great in your skilled hands.
The background of the cormorant photo has a lot of noise, was this a big crop? I love the close up of the black oystercatcher.
Morris
Thanks Morris. The cormie was 2600x1700 after cropping so it was the largest of the crops in this set. The dark green and a little shadow lifting to bring out the birds feathers has brought out the noise. I didn't do an luminance NR.

Very Nice, Geoff.. As we all "expect" from a person with your great talents!
What I would love to ask is how you feel this rig compares to using the 7D2 + 100-400ii ?
Cheers ... Have a great Summer,
LuckyT
Thanks Lucky.
Pros of the Canon combo: Lighter and thus easier to handhold (lens). Smaller to pack (lens). Better button ergonomics and button customizability on the 7D2 vs D500. Nikon is still way behind in this and at least they added the joystick to this camera as without it this camera would be a no go for me.
Pros of the Nikon: more reach with and without a TC: 500 vs 400 and 700 vs 560. Much better AF consistency compared to my 7D2. I still wonder if there are 7D2s out there that are as good as this D500??
