I really do like my new 35/1.4G, but have never used the 24/1.4G, other than a brief test of a pre-owned sample at a camera store, so I plan to follow this thread, for my personal interest.

Still love my 24G/1.4's rendering wide open and I have shot it both on D800E and my Canon's with adapter. I agree it can have a strong 3-d rendering and beautiful soft bokeh wide open.
I have used it at weddings in low light and it performed well for me. Have never tried the 35G but I think you should decide which focal length you would use more and get a lens first in that focal length. There used to be a great thread in this forum back when the 24/1.4G first came out called 24/1.4G wide open and it really show cased the special rendering and magic this lens has. Good luck with your decision.

Yep, thanks for finding that thread. I love lot of the shots there by some talented people like Philip Ino who was the creator and leader of that thread. Some beautiful wedding/ couple shots from him like this:

I working my way through this thread and this beer and this just popped out at me. What a terrific image ...I dont know if another beer would improve it or spoil it, I'm on the fence ...Its perfect.

I also like this image from Philip Ino on pg 7:

Another one, not wide open, but I like it. In the wine cellar of abandoned winery

The extra wideness of the 24G comes in to play on environmental portraits like that one.
Because of the price of the 24G/1.4:and advent of the new 1.8 lenses from Nikon and the Sigma Art lenses that this lens has become not that popular but it still is a real gem in the right hands!

Hello! As for me, Nikon 24mm 1.4G lens is more interesting, it perfectly blurs the background. In tandem with this lens, I like to use portrait 50 mm 2G Helios - http://helios44-2.com for portraits. With an adapter, It fits any camera nicely and without any problems at all. The lens itself is of very high quality, and I bought it for a ridiculous price. I totally recommend it. Personally, I have never used Nikon 35mm 1.4G lens and do not know how it draws the picture!

The 35mm 1.4G is a phenominal lens and definitely has the magical quality you talk about.

I'm slowly transitioning away from my 24-70 and trying to use the 35mm more because it just looks so damn good.

I ran a dual D3 setup for years and although I loved this lens something was never quite right and that was with +15 AF fine tune. Now i'm on a dual D750 setup I don't even use AF fine tune anymore and it's sharp at f/1.4G and superb at f/2.

I also have the 20mm f/1.8g, 50mm f/1.8G, 85mm 1.8G and while they are all great, sharp lenses they lack the micro contrast and finesse of the big boys.

YMMV.

Great composition and nice lighting, too! Could you share the lighting details please (for the image of the painter, I mean)?

BTW for the OP, I own Nikon's 24 and Sigma's 35 option. While the Sigma Art seems to be really very sharp and produces nice OOF backgrounds, something the Nikkor does is just different. Before buying the 24G (had the Sigma 35 first), I reviewed many many photos online and while both the 24G and the 24 Art can produce beautiful pictures, from the 24G I saw samples where you had the feeling you could reach into the screen, so 3D was the rendering. That's why with the 24, I went with Nikon instead of Sigma (also at the time, I had an unpleasant episode with Sigma service policy, that also tipped me into Nikon's direction).

My 35 Art also can produce very 3D images, but not like the two examples you see above, where I feel like I could touch the subjects. But of course there's also price to consider, and the Sigma lenses will produce great IQ too, but if it's worth it to you, I'd go with the Nikkors.

That Profoto B1 creates beautiful light. Too bad it's so expensive...

Thanks for sharing, sorry for the OT!
