To program the dandelion chip for use with Leica R lens, do I need to program the minimum aperture? Am I missing anything if it is not programmed?

Yes, of course. For example, for Summicron-R 50/2 the parameters will be 50 and 2 (focal lenght and aperture)

I have the focal length and the max aperture programmed already. Is there a need to program the minimum aperture ?

No need because this will have no sense - the camera never known about the Leica's aperture ring position

This programmed data (50/2 for example) for Exif data mostly and never changed, Dandelion chip also can allows to shot with metering on the entry-level cameras
