I would get the 80D that would provide me with better shots than the 50D in virtually any scenario.
Leveraging the 50D's great value atm to get the 150-600 C is not a great compromise imho.
The 150-600's slow-ish aperture and insane reach (especially on a crop body) commands for:
- good AF with relatively slow lenses - something the 50D is not that great at, especially if you don't plan on using just the center point (was pretty good in 2008, but that was vs. the competition that was worse. Better =//= great).
- good High-ISO performance to keep shutter speeds "hand-holdable". If you want to freeze motion for sports and BIF, even worse. The 50D's aging sensor shows its age even at ISO 800, and that alone is a deal breaker with the 150-600 imho.
The 50D with a 18-55 alone is a good camera, but I think the T5i you said you had would leave it in dust, focusing just as good, and boosting a far more forgiving high-ISO. Yes, it doesn't have an AF joystick, or a magnesium body, but that's gone for good unless you opt for a 7D series anyways.
