I noticed that Oly is putting out a 30 mm Macro lens and it made me think about whether it would be smart to move to APS-C or M4/3 for macro work to get better DOF.

Any thoughts?

The more you stop down a lens to get DOF the more you have ot worry about diffraction. But if you move to a smaller sensor, you'd get more DOF (at some loss of resolution at least near the noise limit)...

My only concern would be the working distance, likely to be too short to be useful for most insects. (I have the 4/3 35mm and found that to be the case).

If you are using a 35mm camera at the moment then you can set the aperture about 1 stop smaller than on an APS-C camera at the same lens magnification and get the same balance of DOF and diffraction.
