Posted these shots in 2012, but someone on the Canon forum requested them. Since that is now an archived thread and the images deleted, I have to re-post them.
Like creating a set for a movie, it does not matter what the overall look is, only what your camera will capture.
EDIT: I should add that it is best to have the bathing area located 3-4 feet above the ground. Not only does this allow an easier shooting height, but makes it less likely that a cat can easily capture a hummer. It is also desirable to have some shrubbery located directly above. This makes the hummers feel more secure from attacks by flying predators and provides a nearby perch to use before and after bathing.
Also, their preferred depth of water for bathing is only 1/4 - 1/2 inch deep. If the water is deeper, try placing flat rocks in the water that are just slightly under the surface.
