p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · D500 District Track in the Rain

Had an opportunity to try out the D500 for state district meet in a rain storm. I don't pick my assignments or weather.

Camera did work flawlessly, given the conditions, and is the best sports camera I have ever used.

Shot this event with the 400 f/2.8 so that is the equivalent of a 600 f/2.8 telephoto with the crop factor.

Several sequences of runners revealed 30-50 frames perfectly-focused frames even through rain drops and less than ideal lighting.

The buffer never filled up and the AF must to be tried to be believed.

The D500 outperformed my beloved 1Dx in the focusing department and puts my D3 to shame in all categories except build quality.

My only complaint is the camera is too small and way too light ( even with grip ) because I am so used to Nikon and Camera pro bodies.

Nikon did an excellent job with this camera and I am sure the D5 and 1Dx Mark II are equally impressive but full frame.

For track and field, cross country, night football and soccer, the D500 with a 400 f/2.8 will be an excellent combo.

I sold my D3s to get a D500 for sports and wildlife. The focus is blazing fast and accurate. Nikon did a great job with this camera.

Is it me or are none of them actually in focus?
I bet it's because of the rain. I have this issue shooting anything during snow. Snow flakes are more in focus rather than the subject behind them.

They are sharp...camera focused on runner.

Great shots. I'd like to know your focus settings, too, if you don't mind.
