I have not had problems focusing using the live view and set to manual mode and then zoom in, you may have to move the focus point around to an area that has bright stars, but I can focus manually that way pretty easily. Even with wide angle lenses.

There is little heating on the sensor and even after two or more hours of exposure time the amp glow is minimal.

I leave the back lcd on and just cover it. I like to look at it occasionally. But not always sometimes I do turn it off.

I've did some night photography with my X-T1. High ISO noise look light years ahead of my previous 5D2 and 6D.

1. Focusing. It's actually rather easy, you can often just auto focus on a bright star or a distant object end then turn the lens into M mode. Fuji also displays a distance scale in the viewfinder when the camera is set to manual focus where you can see where the focus is and depth of field. This will of course not work with manual lenses like the Samyang 12/2 but then the lens has a distance scale. many of the Fuji primes can engage manual focus my a clutch system where you pull the focus ring back and voila! you have a distance scale there. The 14/2.8, 16/1.4 and 32/1.4 all have it. If you buy a fully manual lens I'd recommend testing infinity on a bright day and mark it on the lens since many manual lenses focus past infinity. I used to do this with my Samyang and Zeiss lenses during my DSLR days too. And finally if you buy the Zeiss 12/2.8 Touit you need to be aware that the lens does reset focus position if you turn your camera off which can be very frustrating if you're shooting in the dark.

2. Battery. I've not had problems with batteries with my X-T1. I have four of them and try to remember charging them before I go out. That said I haven't done any multi hour timelapses. Compared to DSLR battery life is pretty bad but you probably know that having an A7. I have run into problems during a phototrip where I had only 3 of my four batteries charged and had been shooting all day during winter. The new X-T2 allows you to have total of 3 batteries using the grip that should last at least as long as a DSLR.

3. Lenses: The Samyang 12/2 looks like the perfect starscape lens for mirrorless. It's ultra-wide, it's f/2, sharp and has little coma. I do have the Samyang 8/2.8 fish. It's fun to work with but is tricky for composition and either requires you to set the horizon in the middle or do some trickery in post to straighten the image. The Fuji 14/2.8 is a great lens but for some it might not be wide enough. I sold mine for the 10-24/4 (which is almost useless for nightscapes), wish it was 2.8. I've read that the 16(1.4 is good and the 23/1.4 is a good lens but as with the 14 you might feel they are not wide enough. Samyang also has a 10/2.8 that I think is closely related to the FF 14/2.8 lens but it's rather large and very few seem to have it, probably a good lens for astro. I understand the 12/2.8 Touit is pretty good but as I already said it resets focus when you turn the camera off and that's a showstopper for me.

4. Image Quality: I've not tested the X-Pro2 for astro yet but expect it to perform great. My X-T1 files were an eyeopener compared to the FF Canon files at high ISO. Less noise, better constructed and no chroma color noise (terrible with 5D2). I shoot without hesitation on ISO 3200 and sometimes 6400 where I would not have gone over 1600 with my Canons. I'd expect the X-Pro2 and X-T2 to be perfectly usable at 6400. And remember exposing to the right works wonders for all cameras when shooting in the dark, reducing exposure by a 1/2 stop in post does often make a nightshot almost noiseless.

I'm at work so I can't access my files but here are some Fuji nightshots of mine I've posted on Flickr.

Samyang 8mm fish. I have this image at home where I've straightened (only) the horizon.

And finally a shot of the Super Bloodmoon 2015. I did not have the best conditions (thin clouds) but I kind of like the shot anyway. Shot with 50-140/2.8

From a trip to Tromsoe in 2013, X-E1+18-55:

Here is the full album of that trip:
Lapland Fuji

and the album with the other camera i took, the NEX-5N:
Lapland Sony

3 years on I might have done the pp a little differently, but I think you surely can do astro with x-trans.

Nice shot! I've been eyeing that 16/1.4 since it came out

Thank you This is one amazing lens. It has a MFD of 15cm (6 inches) almost like a macro lens. The f/1.4 makes a great low light street camera too.

Yeah it looks really amazing from everything I've seen The Fuji system is blessed with a lot of great wide angles I was really tortured trying to decide what to get here and ended up going with the 10-24 first. Having a lot of the zooms I was lacking small lenses and decided to get the tiny 18/2 to pair with my 35/1.4. But since I got it I love using the 18 for botanical portraits so much I really want to add the 16 now. With the Zeiss 12, Rokinon 8, 12, Fuji 14, 16, 18 and 10-24 there are a lot of hard choices in this range!

You are right, Fuji has many WA choices. My reason for the 16/1.4 was to double for street photography as well as landscapes. Being an effective 24mm FL with f/1.4 makes for a great street/documentary lens.

That lens is getting rave reviews from everyone! Before it came out the 14/2.8 was the considered Fuji's top prime wide angle. I think they're having a hard time moving the 14 now since the 16 came out, the last rebate here they were discounting it for like $400-500, almost half.
