Climbed up a hill for this sunset shot of the town of Vernazza Italy. This is a two shot blend to capture the peak of sunset colors, and then wait for the first lights to come on in the town. Had a great meal with my Wife at a cliff top Bistro after the shoot. Another great day in Italy.

Hope you all enjoy the image.

Steve;

Really nice scene - and great job in blending the "time". I will be there in a couple of months - hope you don't mind if I use your tripod holes! (this was one of the spots I was going to look for - even before I saw yours!)

Todd,

Glad you like the image. You will love this area of Italy when you go. Make sure you have time to go to Portofino as well. Worth the day trip, and one of the few places that photograph well in midday light.

To get to my tripod holes take the hiking path towards out of Vernazza towards Coniglia. AS you go up the path, just before you near the top and go around the hill, there is a flat area at the entrance to a gate of a private residence. Steep walk, but easy to find. I hope your shooting conditions are as good as they were for me. Enjoy your trip!

Beautiful image, and there is a lot to look at in the image that holds your attention and encourages you to look for a while.

For those of us who have never blended images, can you detail how you did this?

Thanks Gary, This area is great in any light, but the magic hours are, well, magic. . I hope you do get the opportunity to go back.

Thanks. Happy to share. I first process the two images in LightRoom to optimize each one for it's exposure and the subject. I then load the two images a layers, often in Photoshop, but in this case On1 software. I then brush out the areas of the top layer image to expose what I want from the bottom layer. I use a soft brush, with low opacity and a large feather to help make the blending as seamless as possible. I then flatten the image, and do whatever processing I feel need to achieve the desired result. I hope this was clear, and helpful for you.

A lovely shot from that perspective. I climbed up the hill and, feeling so tired, fell asleep on the stone wall by the cliff edge. My wife discovered me and almost had a heart attack seeing me there when she came up later.

Great story, and totally understandable. I think another name for Italian must be goat. They love to live on steep hills. I never gain weight when in Italy despite the amazing food. I think I burn all the calories walking the hills.

We were just in Vernazza just at the end of May. This is a very nice shot at sunset. The town is certainly quaint and beautiful.

Thanks John. Yes, this entire area is just wonderful. Best when you get there before the big tourist season. Hope your vist was as great as my last visit was.
