David, I didn't compare the two lenses side-by-side. The impression I got is more just that, impression. Believe it or not the results coming from the two look roughly the same. The difference is more in the overall rendition and not the corners. Do I dare to say for sure that the 12mm lens is sharper? No, not really but based solely on my impression, the files of the 12mm lens seem to have more "crispier" look. And I realize that it is highly subjective, too. Sorry this is not much help, David.

Very interesting. I have the Laowa 12mm, and it's great. But, it's a big f/2.8 lens...tempted to try out the CV 12mm. I asked about the corners, because I am very impressed with the Laowa corners (gets soft in the extreme corners, but mostly sharp throughout the frame). Heck, I thought the CV 10mm had crispy microcontrast - you've got me really intrigued to give the 12mm a try. Wish the CV 15mm (e-mount) wasn't so poor...would love to have a CV 12 and 15 in my bag.

One of the (not as rare as expected) situations the 10mm came in quite handy:

I love the shot, too. I'm currently debating between the 10 and the 12 and leaning towards the 12. Tough call.

I was shooting my 10mm today, and I think I noticed something interesting.
It's not the best lens in the corners; but I've only ever shot it down to f8 before, except for some tests that showed that f11 was worse - diffraction defeating any reduction in aberrations.

But today I was shooting at f9; and noticed what seemed like better edge and corner performance than I expected, with no real penalty from diffraction compared to f8

Could f9 be a sweet (or at least sweeter) spot? Has anyone else noticed this enough to make it worth spending a while next weekend trying to verify it

Yes f/9 seems to be the sweet spot for this lens for great sharpness across the field. I posted a test back in June last year:
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1429742/16#13599494 (scroll down to p.17 #15)

It's not uncommon some lenses perform noticeably better at f/9 or f/10 when compared to f/8.
After f/10, diffraction becomes more evident on the A7RII.

Thanks Fred, that's really helpful. It also re-enthuses me about the lens; gives better across the field performance than I was getting. Makes it probably worth keeping for the times when the extraordinary AOV is fun - I was wondering about getting rid of it for the 12 which is noticeably better in the periphery; but if going for crazy go crazy all the way I say! At least with ultra wide lenses....

EDIT a quick test at close distances and yes the effect is visible, but not massive. Maybe I'm just getting excited by the AOV again. Looked at Fred's infinity crops and the difference is about the same at a metre....

Yes, I've had the same finding - I've done series from f/8 to f/11

Sometimes nothing less wide will do. This thin rock overhang over the Morton National Park really needed 10mm to get the image I wanted.

Two incredibly minor things: does it annoy anyone that the EXIF for this lens misspells Voigtländer? I can't resist editing the EXIF on import. But (also very minor) @Fred Miranda it seems the EXIF reader on the board can't deal with ä!

Thanks David. I sympathize with your point of view as many banks of departments of motor vehicles don't know how to deal with a hyphen in the middle of a single first name like mine, Karl-Heinz. I used to be puzzled when a restaurant chain was named "Der Wienerschnitzel" instead of "Das Wienerschnitzel". What about a couple of missing dots over an a? Is that really worse than substituting "ae" for "ä"? .

Nice image, cheers, K-H.

Yep I think the missing dots are worse than the substitution, because then I hear it differently in my head when I see it written!

I sometimes have a worse problem; there's a hyphen in the middle of my last name, and some airlines can't deal with it, and usually end up spelling it without the hyphen. But then how it's spelled on my ticket is different from how it's spelled in my passport - and I was once denied boarding because of it.,
