I was in Yosemite last week to photograph Dogwoods. Although they were not as good as last year, I did find these two branches dancing over the Merced.

Gale, your first image is really wild! I love the colors. The second image is pretty good too (although I might be tempted to crop out the tree trunk on the right hand side).

Not what I expected from Yosemite! Both are nice, though I would get rid of the tree trunk in the second image. Love the colors!

I really like the first one a lot. A very interesting shot.

Beautiful captures! I know you had probably intended for the 1st image to be sort of high-key, but did you consider trying it with an overall darker exposure? I think it might work, but I could be wrong...

Here it is 1 stop darker and it looks okay but I think you losses the separation of the DW and the water making the image look flat.

Hey Gale,

Pretty nice work here. It's fun to work the dogwood blooms over the Merced. #1 is fine for me, but I you are going to darken the river, don't darken the blooms also. be sure to mask them out to keep them bright. Darkening the whole photo defeats the purpose. With #2, I agree you should crop the tree totally out on the right. As it is it feels cut off and so is distracting.

I cropped the second one as suggested, I'm not sure I like it better.

#1 is cool shot, but I find the background to be a bit too bright... which sort of hides the pretty flowers in the foreground (They sort of blend in, instead of standing out).

I made a couple of Luminosity Masks and darkened the background without darkening the Dogwood branch. Again, trying to keep separation of the DW and background. What do you think?

I think this one works much better! Very nicely done!
