Hi All...

Quail typically start having their young in April each year and I finally was able to get a few photographs of the first batch I’ve seen. The bodies of these little chicks are about the size of a golf ball, and to say they’re active is an understatement. They start flitting around the underbrush shortly after they hatch but always stay near their parents in case a predator approaches. There were about 10 chicks in this group, and they presented a challenge just trying to track them with my camera.

This chicks sure blend in well with the background. Nice series. My favorites are 2 and 3.

I thought the same thing. I'm continually amazed at how well camouflaged so many species are!

These are great; it's not at all hard to imagine how tough it was to isolate them for portraits!

"Time to Explore!" Great sequence, I like the beginning with chick #1 ready to check out his surroundings, then everyone getting in the spirit and finally the 4th photo showing one of them whose so curiousl he's ready to crawl under that log.

! Love photos that tell a story and that group certainly does.

Thank you very much for your comments. The little ones are definitely curious, but their parents tend to keep them on a "short leash" so they don't get too curious and run into a predator.
