p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · San Diego county trip

Hello All,

I am planning a trip to San Diego for 8 days starting from April 27th and will have a car.
My specific interest is bird photography or desert life photography. I will be carrying Canon 100-400mm and couple of landscape lenses.

I will be very nice if people can advise me what are the best places around and also some specific details where I can find good subjects.

Thanks in advance.

Best,

You can find many free roaming birds at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.

1) La Jolla Cove for Brown Pelicans and Brandt's Cormorants.
2) San Diego River Channel for wading birds and migrants. (Park at Robb Field, wear a bathing suit or waders and walk through the marshes in the channel).
3) Tijuana Estuary (haven't been there myself but it looks great).
4) Santee Lakes (Wood Ducks, American White Pelicans, migrants)

100-400 should be OK for most of these (except passerine migrants).

While AB is great there is not much in the way of wildlife, which seemed to be the OPs focus. It is also getting pretty toasty out there too, even though the next few days may be on the nippy side, at least by local standards (60s).
