I am hoping to shoot sunset action senior pics were a lot of power is not needed but I do like the HSS. Right now I have a Profoto B1 and am not really liking the fact that it only uses the higher power top 25% in HSS

The shots I've posted were taken around 11 in the morning... full on sun. Very happy with the strobe and how it performed. Plenty of power to do what you want... recycle times were not bad at all. Very few of my shots required the strobe to be at full power. Battery life... no issues... shot all morning... still had 1/2 a battery when the shoot was over.

Shots from this past Sunday.... CL600X.

The strobe did a great job! 300 pops... from 1/2 to full power... and I still had some battery left. Color consistency was spot on... recycle times were fine. Using HSS was worth the price of the strobe to me. I hated using ND filters...

I have enjoyed this thread and the photography work!

Questions:

1)I assume this strobe works in normal mode when it is at it x sync or below and in HSS above the sync speed?
2) Is there a place that designates what camera model each strobe and trigger works with? For example I have an Nikon D-300 that is probably from around 2008.
3) Hatch, which speedring did you use with your Elinchrom Deep Octa and how is the fit on the cl-600x and modifier?

Thank You!

Hi there,

1) When you set the strobe in HSS.... as soon as the shutter is past the cameras sync speed... it kicks in.
2) www.cheetahstand.com Canon/Nikon/Sony they should have the info you are looking for
3) this is the speedring you are wondering about .... well built.. easy to use... and affordable.

Hope this helps. I've enjoyed the strobe so far... I'll update the thread as I use it...

HERE is another approach. More expensive but it will get the flash tube deeper into the modifier.

Would this be the correct speedring for elinchrom deep octa and Bowens mount of the CL-600x?

I don't use elinchrom modifiers so I'm not sure. The description says 4 and 8 sided so it should.
Happily B&H has a generous return policy if it doesn't work.

That is the one you will need... I thought it was strange the price had gone up $20 The mount has 4 tabs as you see in the image...it's what you want for the Cheetah/Godox Bowens mount strobes.

Another with the CL600X and the Elinchrom 39in deep octa. the water is that color...scary..but it makes for a nice background. Shot at a public park here in Phoenix.

These things are awesome. A senior portrait photographer (1/2 - 2/3 of shots are on location instead of in studio) I know well, got a Godox AD600BM for Nikon. It is TTL compatible with HSS. TTL is perfect for teenagers in action. They take shots of them moving all the time and TTL is perfect for that. They mount it on a stand with human power and move (trying to keep the same distance, TTL is there when they are a little off). It is fantastic! More power then their Phottix Indra, and simply better, at 1/2 the price. They are going to sell the Indra. I am thinking about getting one real hard.
These guys have changed everything!

Glad to hear the TTL version is working out for you. I'm impressed with the lights... looking forward to more location shoots.

No ND filter on stills but don't expect to be able to shoot sports at F11 with a single flash. The HSS comes at a price.

I think this is true of most any system/strobe you go with. For my needs...I'm not shooting sports... the CL600X is going to be a very useful tool.
